Giving to PNCA
Pacific Northwest College of Art offers a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in graphic design, illustration, intermedia, painting, photography, printmaking and sculpture. A PNCA education prepares students for sustained creative achievement in the fine and design arts and throughout their lives. It strengthens their ability to interpret the conditions and events shaping the world and prepares them to engage that world and its cultures with understanding, enthusiasm, and integrity.
Support of PNCA’s annual fund assures that your gift will be directed to where it is most needed. Annual fund contributions fuel creativity and imagination by supporting students, faculty, the Philip Feldman Gallery + Project Space, the Charles Voorhies Fine Arts Library and the Youth Arts Program.
What Your Gift Supports
Student Scholarships enable PNCA to attract many of the region’s most promising students whose limited economic means make it imperative for them to seek educational opportunity at an affordable price. However, many of these students still find it necessary to work in order to meet their tuition expenses. Scholarship support enables dedicated students to fully participate in the academic, civic and social life of the PNCA community and help them assume professional roles in society after graduation.
Faculty Support invigorates collegiate debate; helps faculty explore critical new ideas and concepts and in general helps stimulate intellectual exploration. A strong faculty is a cornerstone to excellent educational programs, instrumental in creating a vigorous, spirited community of learning. Annual funds directed to faculty enables them to look towards the future, be proactive in readying itself for change, and effectively adopt change into its culture.
The Philip Feldman Gallery + Project Space serves as the nexus where community, visual art and academia mingle and exchange ideas. Philip Feldman was a tireless advocate for the arts and the gallery was a gift to PNCA in his memory. The Gallery hosts cutting edge exhibitions of internationally known or emerging artists free of charge to the Portland community. Visiting national and international artists’ present public lectures, critiques, give studio visits and workshops.
Charles Voorhies Fine Arts Library materials support undergraduate level research in art and liberal art disciplines and provides access to many electronic arts databases, peer-reviewed internet resources, reserve materials, videocassettes, CD-ROMS, and @lexandria. The collection currently holds 13,000 titles, including serials, videos, and monographs. Support from the annual fund will position the library among the best fine arts and design facilities in the region. The long-range goal is to build a collection of 25,000 volumes.
Youth Arts Program has three components focussed on serving Portland’s children in a different way. The Outreach component brings free art classes to nine public schools in Portland’s poorest neighborhoods, where art instruction is limited or nonexistent. Youth Program provides art courses for children at PNCA’s campus. The Pre-College component offers intensive studio courses for teens. PNCA provides scholarships to low-income families participating in the Youth and Pre-College Programs. In addition, BFA students gain experience as teaching assistants throughout the program.
