Field Trip: New York City

senegal A group of MFA and BFA students are in New York City for the week of March 10th, following up on a week of PNCA's first out-of-state Idea Studio in the Big Apple. Global Studios: Senegal

senegal BFA Faculty Modou Dieng and six PNCA students are exploring the art and culture of Dakar, Senegal through January 26 as part of PNCAs Global Studios Program. The intensive studio class provides an introduction to contemporary and international issues in the religions, arts, history and politics of this West African nation.

2007

Scrapbook from México

stephen During November, eight Continuing Education students joined CE Instructor Steve Mauldin for ten days of painting and exploration in the historic colonial city of San Miguel de Allende, one of the oldest, most vibrant art colonies in Mexico. In partnership with the Instituto Allende, a well-established art and language school associated with the University of Guanajuato, the group focused on responding to new contexts, stimuli, and inspiration while creatively expressing themselves. When the group returned to Portland, they assembled this Scrapbook of their photos and experiences south of the border. Visit the scrapbook →


Sketchy Characters

sslappe Working in collaboration with twenty West Coast artists and filmmakers, PNCA faculty Stephen Slappe has created a visual archive of characters from popular culture, past and present. Beginning first with a conversation navigating each participant’s respective pop culture histories, the artists then decided on a character to recreate on paper. Visit the blog →


Global Studios: Tokyo 2007

triciajasonSeven PNCA students and two faculty members have arrived in Tokyo to experience the mega annual design extravaganza Design Tide. The international festival of exhibitions, workshops and products spills out in to the streets, shops, and galleries of Tokyo and, as the Design Tide website says, "The whole city will be full of encounters with new works of design, and brimming with new possibilities." Fifteen Minutes of Fire

jhollomon Senior Jake Hollomon is one of eight contestants from Portland chosen to compete in the finals of the Cut & Paste Digital Design Tournament. For the contest, each designer gets a theme, a souped-up workstation and 15 minutes to create something entirely original. Semester in Brazil
