Extreme Craft blogger Garth Johnson curates Era Messages, opening the exhibition January 27 with two days in residence and a CraftPerspectives lecture on Saturday.

Emily Pilloton is the founder and executive director of Project H Design and runs the Studio H project, a high school design/build curriculum for rural community benefit. She lectures January 27 for the MFA in Applied Craft and Design.

Alejandro Cesarco
Visiting artist Alejandro Cesarco utilizes conceptual processes in a self-conscious exploration of narrative, influence, translation and reception. He gives an MFA in Visual Studies lecture at 6:30 pm on January 20 in the Swigert Commons.
Bison Studios To Go Rural
The “MFA in Applied Craft and Design”:http://acd.pnca.edu/ program has named the design-build team leaders for 2011-12. Jack Sanders of Rural Studios and Alabama artist Butch Anthony will lead the MFA students as they shape their Applied Craft and Design Bison Studios workspace in NE Portland.
New Student Orientation
New students are welcomed to PNCA with a day of introduction to the multifaceted culture at PNCA on January 14. Students will be introduced to key people and resources to help navigate their way through PNCA’s educational experience.

Jeffrey Thomas Joins MoCC as Acting Director
Today, Dr. Thomas Manley, the CEO of the Museum of Contemporary Craft and President of Pacific Northwest College of Art, announced the appointment of Jeffrey Thomas to the position of Acting Director of the Museum.
With a rich background in gallery development, marketing and advertising, Thomas brings thirty years of experience to the Museum. As the manager and later co-owner of one the groundbreaking Portland art galleries—Jamison/Thomas—he possesses deep knowledge of the world of contemporary art, craft and design and is well respected by colleagues in the creative services sector.
The Museum of Contemporary Craft, which will celebrate its 75th anniversary in 2012, is operated in partnership with Pacific Northwest College of Art. Thomas’ appointment is expected to help the Museum expand its membership and audience base, develop the design component of its mission, and strengthen its programmatic integration with PNCA.
National Portfolio Day

PNCA Supporter Ed Cauduro Remembered
PNCA is saddened to learn of the death of the College’s friend and supporter Ed Cauduro, local arts advocate and well known collector of contemporary art. Ed Cauduro had a great appreciation of the arts world and for decades collected what moved him, creating one of the most impressive private collections in the Pacific Northwest. He gave back to the community, and specifically to young artists, in many ways that will benefit artists and the larger community for years to come.
In 2008, Cauduro established The Ed Cauduro Fund for Pacific Northwest College of Art of The Oregon Community Foundation, a $1 million dollar endowment that awards a $10,000 scholarship annually to a student in each class. The endowment also provides annual funding for art supplies for students who would otherwise be unable to afford them.
“I am eternally grateful for the opportunity that Mr. Cauduro has provided me with; a chance to expand my vision as an artist and to study with some of the most inspiring professionals around. Were it not for his generosity, I would never have been able to come to PNCA. I sincerely appreciate his love for art and his support for young emerging artists in Portland,” says Ed Cauduro Scholarship recipient Andriana Vawdrey ‘12.
Cauduro was once a board member of the Portland Art Museum and Contemporary Crafts Museum & Gallery, now known as Museum of Contemporary Craft in partnership with Pacific Northwest College of Art. His impressive collection of well known contemporary masters includes Jean Michel Basquiat, Kenneth Noland and Andy Warhol, and was the subject of a 2004 exhibition at Portland Art Museum.
UPDATE: The celebration for Ed Cauduro that was originally scheduled for February 12 has been cancelled.
