Certificate Program

We offer an open enrollment certificate program in the following fields of study: Fine Art, Graphic Design and Moving Image Arts. The Pacific Northwest College of Art is an accredited member of the National Association of Schools of Art and Design, and the Northwest Association of Schools and Colleges.

CERTIFICATE IN GRAPHIC DESIGN

The curriculum in graphic design focuses on creative use of typography, and emphasizes strong compositional design, presentation skills, problem analysis and effective production methods. Students seeking entry-level positions in graphic design would benefit from this 18-unit program. Students have up to four years to complete the certificate.

CERTIFICATE IN MOVING IMAGE ARTS

The Certificate emphasizes fundamental understanding of animation craft and critical skills to create unique moving image work in either traditional film-based or digital media. With a focus on developing a strong personal esthetic, the curriculum emphasizes visual grammar, cinemagraphic theory and techniques, and critical analysis. Students take courses at both PNCA and the Northwest Film Center, for a total of 17 required units.

CERTIFICATE IN FINE ARTS

In this section you will find a wide range of courses in the various fine art disciplines suited to your experience level. Depending upon the level of the course, the content will cover visual fundamentals, craft, historical precedence, modern and contemporary concepts, and the development of your ideas and personal voice. Courses are scheduled on a rotating basis. Beginning courses rotate through on a two-three semester schedule. With the aid of an Academic Advisor, students plot a 17-unit program in drawing and painting to gain technical skills and to develop their ideas and unique voices.
