Joint MFA in
Applied Craft and Design
Pacific Northwest College of Art and
Oregon College of Art & Craft
Building on over 200 collective years of art and design education, the city’s two oldest art colleges — Oregon College of Art and Craft and Pacific Northwest College of Art — have collaborated to create a joint MFA degree that fosters a new, forward-thinking model of art and design education. The partnership of the joint MFA bolsters the cooperative and innovative efforts of these two growing institutions by creating a program that offers students opportunities for creative work that fuses craft, design and environmentalism within a rich academic and creative practice.
Visit the Applied Craft and Design micro site for detailed information.
The joint MFA in Applied Craft and Design celebrates process and tradition, innovation and cultural engagement. Students pursue solutions to contemporary challenges– infused with social and environmental responsibility — through conceptual investigation and creative practice. Mentors will work one-on-one with students to shape their work. The highly selective program is ideal for students seeking to inform a design practice and skill set with the knowledge of making.
Craft and design will inform each other and intersect, with outcomes including entrepreneurial ventures, design careers, artistic practices, opportunities in higher education and other occupations that embrace creative problem solving.
