Exquisite Scrolls: Collaborative Drawings for PNCA

Exquisite Scrolls: Collaborative Drawings for PNCA is a project imagined and developed by PNCA alumni and friends during the time of COVID-19 and the Black Lives Matter movement. Embracing creative ways to make a collective impact while physical distancing, the project aims to shine a light on the centrality of PNCA in our community and raise critical scholarship funds for Black students, Indigenous students, and students of color at PNCA

Support Exquisite Scrolls

The Project

Exquisite Scrolls is inspired by the Surrealist parlor game Exquisite Corpse in which a shared drawing is created without revealing what the previous contributor has drawn. In Exquisite Scrolls, a scroll passes from one drawer to the next with each drawer adding their work before covering the image and sending the scroll to the next drawer.

Scrolls are organized in teams led by a scroll captain who recruits the drawers and selects the scroll theme. Inspirations include Exquisite Landscape, Exquisite Feelings, and Exquisite Table. The project runs from June through September 2020.

Supporting BIPOC Student Scholarships at PNCA

Each Exquisite Scrolls team is launched with support from a sponsor who pledges $1,000 to PNCA. Once the team is established, its captains, drawers, and friends are encouraged to donate as well. 100% of all contributions to Exquisite Scrolls support Black students, Indigenous students, and students of color at PNCA through Equity Scholarships

The Unveiling

When the scrolls are complete, teams and their sponsors may gather for small un-wrap parties. The scrolls will be exhibited when it is safe to gather in groups and we hope to offer them for sale or auction. In this way, Exquisite Scrolls plants seeds for the future and creates a template for successive years of Scroll Projects.
